September 29,2021
Subject Association Activity provide teachers with news and information about the curriculum related to the subject areas and links to learning resource and also organizes conferences and workshops. As part of the B.Ed curriculum, we have decided to conduct a Subject Association Activity about 'World Heart Day' & 'International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste' on 29 September 2021, Wednesday.
World Heart Day is observed annually on September 29. It is celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of keeping the heart fit as it's one of the most important organs.
World Heart Day is a global campaign
during which individuals, families, communities, and governments around the world participate in activities to take charge of their heart health and that of others. Through this campaign, the World Heart Federation unites people from all countries and backgrounds in the fight against the CVD burden and inspires and drives international action to encourage heart-healthy living across the world.
World Heart Day informs people around the globe that CVD, including heart disease and stroke, is the world’s leading cause of death claiming 18.6 million lives each year, and highlights the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control CVD. It aims to drive action to educate people that by controlling risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and
physical inactivity, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided.
Harnessing the power of digital health to improve awareness, prevention and management of CVD globally is our goal for World Heart Day 2021.
The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is observed on September 29 to spread awareness about sustainable consumption and production of food. In this year, we are celebrating its second year.
The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is observed to draw human interest in agri-food-nature dependence. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), reducing food loss is of significant importance as it contributes to the realisation of broader improvements towards achieving food security, safety, and quality to deliver nutritional outcomes.
The theme for the International Day of Food Loss and Waste 2021 also aims to raise awareness about why it is important to reduce food loss and waste.
Food is the third most important thing for living beings to provide energy and development, maintain life, or stimulate growth after air and water. Infact, it is one of the most complicated sets of chemicals. Food plays an important role in the promotion of health and disease prevention. In general, it consists of essential nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins which are consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism and ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to sustain health. The importance of food is obvious and essential. Healthy food provides us the nutrients and energy to develop and grow, be active and healthy, to move, play, work, think and learn.
The observance of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste will make a clear call to action for both the public and private sectors to bolster efforts to reduce food loss and waste toward ensuring food security for all. Reducing food loss and waste can bring about benefits to society as a whole and can result in increased food availability to the most vulnerable, reduced pressure on land and water resources, increased productivity and economic growth.
Tackling food loss and waste is, therefore, essential to increase the efficiency in the way our food is produced, distributed and consumed.
